Beautifying for a Good Cause

More than $1,000 was raised for the Fund for Learning on Sunday.

With Valentine's Day around the corner, community members took advantage of a fundraiser at Pleasantville's Beautiful Hair Color Salon & Spa on Sunday night.

Liz Armao, treasurer for the school district's Fund for Learning, is a regular at the salon. She said Franco Marino, the owner of BHC Salon offered to host a fundraiser to help out the organization.

"I ended up organizing [the fundraiser] because I happened to know the Marinos," revealed Armao. "They offered to do this for us and give us 100 percent of the profits."

The Fund for Learning, explained Armao, is a non-profit which raises money for grants to benefit the schools.

The group hosts an annual dinner/dance and silent auction to raise funds for grants, and Sunday's efforts have added an additional $1,316.50 to the organization's funds.

"It could be something that can help out another fundraiser going into next year," said Armao.

The salon was open from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. and offered all of its usual services to customers for the occasion, along with refreshments.

In addition to Beautiful Hair Color Salon's Franco and Anna Marino, Armao said the day was also made successful by "the other staff members who so generously donated their time and expertise," including Sandra, Sofia, Karen and Laura.

"They're so community-minded," said Armao. "We were really very appreciative."
