Green Light for 2nd REFLECTIONS 5K

Pleasantville village board gives Michael Bloom a thumbs up for a second annual race.

What started last year as to a former babysitter is becoming an annual tradition for the Village of Pleasantville.

Michael Bloom spoke with the village board at its July 9 meeting about organizing a second annual 5K run/walk to benefit the R.E.F.L.E.C.T.I.O.N.S. Scholarship Fund, in memory of Tina Shaina Gambino.

"I'm here today to ask your permission to organize another 5K," he said.

"When the last walker crossed the finish line, the first snowflake began to drift down," recalled Bloom. "Despite the inclement weather, over 250 people participated in the race, by running or walking, and more than 50 people volunteered to help make this race such a success."

The more than $16,000 raised through the race, Bloom said, was donated to the scholarship fund, to graduating seniors each year.

"I not only believe this was a special event for the R.E.F.L.E.C.T.I.O.N.S. Scholarship Fund, but I also believe it was a special event for the Pleasantville community," Bloom said.

Said Scherer, "It comes at no surprise that it was a success because of the impressive job you did...there couldn't possibly be a more appropriate Pleasantville-centric appropriate charity for this to be serving than than the Tina Gambino Scholarship Fund."

Before the race is finalized, Bloom will meet with the , which donated the use of high school facilities last year. Village Administrator Patricia Dwyer added that the village will need insurance and waiver forms as well.

"I think it's fair to say we are delighted to see you do it again and delighted to help in any way you can," Scherer said.
