Pace and BRS Partner for Read Across America

Pace University and Bedford Road School celebrated Read Across America together Friday.

In honor of Dr. Suess' birthday, in Pleasantville and  came together for Read Across America.

On Friday, members of the Pace University football team visited classrooms at BRS to read books, answer questions, sign autographs and take photographs with students.

This year, the theme of the day was The Lorax, which premiered in theatres the same day.

"Those Pace Football players who visited during the middle portion of the day were able to participate in recess, which was a big hit with the students," according to a statement from Pace.

BRS Assistant Principal Cynthia Kramer said in the statement, "Over the past year, we've begun building a university/elementary school partnership that continues to grow. Bedford Road School students benefitted from having Pace Football players read to them as a part of the ‘Read Across America’ event."

She continued, "They heard a Dr. Seuss story and learned about the benefits of attending college and playing sports. Athletes have also helped classes in our edible garden with planting and harvesting. The young children really enjoy working with the Pace students and look up them as scholars and athletes."
