VIDEO: PHS Alumni and Retirees Lay Down New Bricks

With Alumni Plaza restored to its former spot in front of Pleasantville High School, the annual bricklaying ceremony was a chance for community members to reflect on the new and old.

Christina Campriello shared the backgrounds of the 19 alumni and former staff members who placed their personalized bricks in the plaza Saturday morning.

"For the past couple of years while the construction was going on the campus we didn't have an opportunity to do this," she said, "but this summer the plaza has been meticulously recreated and it looks nicer than ever."

The ceremony was part of the day's pre-homecoming game events, and was followed by a plaque dedication in the high school's lobby, as well as student-led tours of the building.

The football team later blew out rival Briarcliff in a 30-0 victory for its homecoming game and regular season finale.

This year, bricks at Alumni Plaza were dedicated to the following classes, alumni and retired employees:

  • Julia C. Krauss — 2009
  • Stephanie Krauss — 2011
  • Elizabeth Nonna Cunliffe — 1994
  • Caroline Nonna Holland — 1996
  • Marianne Nonna — 2001
  • Timothy Nonna — 2002
  • Mary Ann DeFrancesco, PHS Principal’s Secretary — 1979-2009
  • Dr. George Cancro, PMS Principal 1989-2004; PHS Principal — 2004-2010

Alumni Plaza is an ongoing project of the Pleasantville Fund for Learning. Bricks can be purchased for $100 each using this order form.
