Diabetically Speaking

I am a diabetic and feel the need for a place to meet and talk with others about the disease and how we live with it.

Its been about 10 years since I was informed I was a type 2 diabetic. During that time I have had periods of very good control with good Hba1c numbers and other times very apathetic and not such great control.

Excercise, diet and medications, sounds easy right?

Early on when the Dr scared me (alot) I had much better success controlling the disease. Now the fear has worn off and it is a daily grind to rededicate myself to excellent care.

I live and work in Westchester. I would like to start and informal panel where people can meet and talk, No obligation or sales pitch. I am interested in forming a group of like-minded diabetics where we can meet and share stories and hopefully inspire one another to a better level of care.  If interested, please e-mail me and I will be in touch to set up our first meetting.

I know first hand the medical community is here to help us in our time of need. Unfortunately they treat physical symptoms. I have felt for some time they overlook the emotional role played by the disease, its symptoms or just our ability to cozy up to the reality of the moment.

I was told that I am prediabetic and that I have to control my diet. I am finding this difficult and would most certainly like to exchange ideas and info with others,

So far including myself we have a total of 4. I was hoping we could get a minimum of 10 people. As far as controlling your diet, I understand your difficulty. I must admit I was there (pre). Its 15 years later and I am still trying to come to grips. Back then I went on a hard core diet for 6 weeks knocked my numbers down and never went back to that dr. Now I see the same Endocrinologist for about 10 years but I do understand the situation better. It is a struggle and I have just renewed my vows to live a cleaner life (exercise and diet). I have also begun a new drug that is inject able. After resisting this for a long time I now will do it and hope for the best. I hope we can meet as a group soon.

It has been a while and my numbers have steadily been improving along with my personal outlook. By moderating my diet (eating what I like still just much less often), Daily exercise as well as testing 3-4 times a day and a daily injection which I was so strongly opposed to I am now feeling better and it shows. It is still a daily challenge and I must rise to meet it every given day. I still imaging a group of us meeting to support one another and discuss our experiences. Only 6 weeks till my next A1C.
