School of the Holy Child is pleased to announce the appointment of Colleen Pettus as Head of Middle School, effective July 2012. She currently serves as principal at Saints John and Paul, a K-8 school in Larchmont, NY.
In making the announcement, Head of School Ann F. Sullivan said, “We are extremely happy to welcome Mrs. Pettus to School of the Holy Child. She brings with her a combination of knowledge, experience and a passionate commitment to students.”
Pettus has deep roots in education, having worked in the profession since receiving a Master of Arts in the Teaching of English from Teachers College, Columbia University in 1994. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the State University of New York at Albany summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa and has taught at the New York City Lab School and at Teachers College where she also supervised student teachers.
“This is an exciting opportunity to work with a terrific group of students, faculty and parents, as well as a community that cares deeply about the School,” says Pettus. “The ability to empathize and connect with all of the different members of a school community has been a very important part of my experience as an educational leader. My current position as principal, identity as a “lead teacher” and role as a parent helps me identify with and meet the needs of all of the groups I will be responsible for caring for at Holy Child. I greatly look forward to working closely with the students, administration and staff, and supporting them in their endeavors.”
Pettus and her husband Steven, dean of students at Fordham Prep, live in Pleasantville, NY, with their four children—Jack, Devin, Ellie and Steven.
