By now many of your have heard of UNDER ONE ROOF, the joint effort between the Upper Westchester Muslim Society and Pleasantville Community Synagogue. We have come together to get to know each other while participating in local and global community service.
Our current project is two-fold and requires your participation! The project will culminate later this year when our two communities share a meal at the Mosque in Thornwood and will raise money for two noble causes: the work of Dr. Hawa Abdi in Somalia, who transformed her family farm into a refugee camp for women and children who are victims of violence in her country; and Birthday Angels, which provides birthday parties for orphaned and destitute children - Jewish and Arab - in Israel.
To raise money for these causes, we are creating "Cooking Under One Roof," a cookbook that will include recipes from both of our communities. Recipes should be in accordance with our community's guidelines: kosher/kosher-style for PCS and Halal for UWMS. We hope to include 150 recipes.
Please submit your recipes no later than August 28, 2011 but the earlier the better! If you cannot use the on-line format, please send your recipe to us by e-mail or snail mail by August 15, 2011 and we'll do it for you.
