Help your child to gain confidence with reading aloud and build excitement around reading! Briarcliff Manor Public Library is offering Reading to Rover, a program where your child comes in to read aloud to a therapy dog for three 15-minute sessions.
Children who are usually hesitant to read aloud, won't be embarrased to stumble or make mistakes in front of a non-judgmental therapy dog. Many children are convinced that the dog understands what they're reading, and the seeming approval on a friendly dog's face gives children that extra boost of confidence. Oftentimes, children are so excited that they want to keep reading past the 15-minute session. Research shows that reading aloud to a dog audience can increases a child's reading skills (UC Davis study).
This program is for all dog lovers 1st to 5th grade. Registration is required, please contact Amy Kaplan at firstname.lastname@example.org or 941-7072 to sign-up for a time slot.
