Briarcliff Girls Winter Track & Field Team Wins League Championship

The Briarcliff High School Girls Winter Track team won their league championship on Sunday, January 19, at the New Balance Track & Field Center in New York City. With seven schools competing, the Bears led the scoring with 165 points and won nine of the 16 contested events. Senior captains Sophie Feuer and Sharon Luan along with sophomore Caroline Pennacchio led the team to victory with Sophie winning the 300 Meters and 600 Meters, Sharon winning the High Jump and Caroline winning the 1500 Meters and 3000 Meters. Sophie and Sharon then joined together with freshman Sophia Gelard and junior Ali Misuraca to win the 4x400 Meter Relay while Caroline joined with juniors Sarah Bianco and Blake Elwood and freshman Devon Bombassei to win the 4x800 Meter Relay. Also winning their events were Samantha Tobin in the 1500 Meter Race Walk and sophomore Katherine Shine winning the Shot Put. All ten of these athletes earned All League honors. This was the Briarcliff girl’s team’s second Winter Track & Field League title in the last three years.
