Briarcliff’s Sophie Feuer Claims County Championship

Briarcliff HS senior Sophie Feuer went to the Westchester County Track & Field Championships at the New Balance Track & Field Center on Saturday, February 1 with a mission – to win her first County Championship. Nearly 40 schools compete at the Westchester County Championships which makes for a very competitive event. Sophie was ready for this big stage and ran the race of her life against a very talented field of runners from across Westchester County finishing first in the 600 Meters and captured the County Championship she had worked so hard to achieve. Sophie’s time of 1:37.38 broke her own school record and is the fastest 600 Meter time by a Westchester County girl this season. Sophie’s time currently ranks 10th fastest in New York State and 23rd fastest in the nation this season.

Briarcliff girls also scored in the 3000 Meters with Caroline Pennacchio finishing 5th and in the girl’s 4x400 meter relay where Sophie and Caroline teamed up with freshman Sophia Gelard and senior Sharon Luan to take 5th place and set a new school indoor record of 4:13.95. These efforts led Briarcliff girl’s to a very strong 10th place team finish. The Briarcliff boy’s team also placed well finishing 21st with senior Gerardo Munoz leading the way with a third place finish in the High Jump in a season best of 5’9”.
