After Derailment, Briarcliff Halts Valet Parking

As of Friday evening, Metro North believes service on the Hudson Line won't be completely restored until at least Monday morning.

4:30 p.m. update from Metro North:

Regular Hudson Line service remains suspended until further notice due to Thursday’s freight train derailment in the vicinity of Spuyten Duyvil station.

Limited Hudson Line service will operate between Poughkeepsie and Yonkers stations, including hourly service through this weekend (Sat., July 20 & Sun., July 21).

We expect to have regular Hudson Line service restored for the AM Peak on Monday, July 22, with possible delays.

Until then, customers are strongly recommended to make alternate service plans. See www.mta.info/mnr  for details. Please see http://bit.ly/9rsE8k for schedule.

Original Story, 2:51 p.m.

Scarborough commuters had to scramble to find alternative means of getting into New York City on another scorching summer day today as Metro North announced full Hudson Line service had not yet been restored.

The MTA announced Thursday night that a freight train had fallen off the tracks in the Bronx and all Hudson Line train service was stopped.

This morning, very limited service was restored to the linethat affects stations along the Hudson River including Scarborough, and trains still could not move past the site of the accident.

As a result, Briarcliff Manor canceled its valet parking for the day, according to an update from Village Manager Philip Zegarelli.

"The Metro-North garbage train derailment near Spuyten Duyvil has caused havoc in the train schedule and many of our commuters have called it quits for the day," he said. "While Metro-North does honor your commuter passes on other lines in such cases…your Scarborough Parking permit ISN’T transferrable."
