A Day in the Life of Pleasantville-Briarcliff Manor

Here's a snapshot of a typical day in Pleasantville and Briarcliff Manor.

A cold, but clear dawn greeted the residents of Pleasantville and Briarcliff Manor on Thursday, December 16.

Commuters boarded their trains at the and Scarborough Metro North stations for their daily trip to work in Manhattan and other points. Students waited for crossing guard Doris Sharp to stop traffic to allow for their safe walk to school. Some stopped for a morning cup of coffee at their favorite spots, like Julie Kelly, who checks her email at the as she enjoys a muffin.

A variety of businesses greeted customers as they went about their day, happy the has covered the parking meters for the holiday season. At the , moms and tots gathered for a music and motion class.

Baker Kim Ambrose hand-decorated a tray of cupcakes with frosting prior to opening for the day at on Washington Avenue.

The shortening daylight began to fade at the , where owner Gabriel Yakubov cut the hair of Eugene Hertz of Briarcliff. Around the corner, projectionist Andy Baratta prepared to run the "platter" projection system as patrons bought tickets for an early evening movie at the .

It had been dark for hours as commuters begin to return home to see their families.
