Michel Gondry’s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is lauded by critics as one of the most provocative films of the early 2000s. Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet star as a couple who each decide to undergo “targeted memory erasure,” a procedure which permanently erases all remnants of their failed relationship from their memories. Written by Gondry, along with Charlie Kaufman and Pierre Bismuth, Eternal Sunshine won the 2004 Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. [R, 2004, 108 mins.]
