Grab & Go Kids Planner: Snowshoe Hike, Fresh Food and Valentines

There are plenty of family-friendly destinations in Westchester this weekend.

Is this what Saturday morning sounds like in your house: "Mom, I'm bored. What are we doing today?"

Be prepared with an answer! We've assembled a selection of kid-friendly activities going on in and around Pleasantville and Briarcliff Manor this weekend.

Why Go: Your 11-12 year-olds can mingle, hang out, and enjoy snacks  in a safe environment. Call 769-7950 with questions.

Pricing: $5 for Pleasantville students.

Snowshoe Hike

Where/When: Teatown Lake Reservation in Ossining on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 1 pm - 2:30 pm.

Why Go: Children six and up will love getting some fresh air and strapping on snowshoes (provided at Teatown if you don't have your own). A naturalist will guide your expedition!  Don't forget to call 914-762-2912, ext. 110 to make a reservation.

Price: Free for members, $5 for non-members.

Valentine's Family Fun Day

Where/When: The YWCA in White Plains on Sunday, Feb. 13 at 3 pm.

Why Go: Kids will jam to the Brett Band for Kids, enjoy face painting, a Valentine's Day craft, a bake sale, and a silent auction.  

Pricing: $10 per ticket; or, $25 for 1 parent & 2 kids or $40 for the entire family.

Tweet, Slither, Munch: Which Animal is Right for Me?

Where/When: Sunday, Feb. 13, 2 p.m. at The Greenburgh Nature Center.

Why Go: Choosing a pet is a big decision (and, let me tell you, a parrot, bunny or snake can live a lot longer than you might expect). Learn all about pet choices, for how long they live, how to care for them, and even meet some animals. Ages 8 and up.

Pricing: $7 adults, $5 children up to age 12 (museum admission price)

Indoor Farmers Market

Where/When: The Indoor Farmers Market at the Westchester County Center on Sunday, Feb. 13 from 10 am - 3 pm.

Why Go: Kids can be involved in the planning of a meal, from soup to nuts!  Choose from delicious fresh fruit, vegetables, breads, cheeses, honey and eggs and go home to let little hands help prepare a yummy meal. Entertainment, activities, and free samples abound.

New York Family Camp Fair

Where/When: Saturday, Feb. 12, 12 p.m. - 3 p.m. at the or Sunday, Feb. 13, 12 p.m. - 3 p.m. at .

Why Go: Don’t wait until the snow melts to plan for summer camp season! More than 45 directors from different summer programs will be on hand to help you and your child plan their summer fun.
