Patch Picks: A Celebration of Women's History Month

Focus on women: networking, art, film, dance, theatre and more.

March is Women's History Month—and Patch is kicking off the celebration early with a round up of women-centric events in the region:

The Deconstructive Impulse: Women Artists Reconfigure the Signs of Power, 1973-1991: A survey of leading women artists that examines the crucial feminist contribution to the development of deconstructivism in the 1970s and 80s. Great Women Photographers: Films about the history of photography in America focusing on successful women photographers. Presented in conjunction with the exhibition, Cindy Sherman: Works, each film is followed by coffee and discussion.

Ladies First: A Visit with Six of America's First Ladies: The annual “History Luncheon” sponsored by the Rye Historical Society at. A 90-minute one–woman theatrical performance by  Robin Lane drawing intimate portraits of America's First Ladies including Abigail Adams, Mary Lincoln, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Jacqueline Kennedy. "Fine and Dandy: the Ladies of Tin Pan Alley" A concert by Paul Chamlin and Rochelle Breyer exploring the music of women songwriters such as Kay Swift (Can't We Be Friends?), Dana Suesse (You Ought to be in Pictures), and Dorothy Fields (I Can't Give You Anything But Love). The Professional Women of Westchester (PWW), a networking group for enterprising women, will celebrate Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day at Eclisse of White Plains. Monday, March 7 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Business strategy consultant, Andi Gray of Strategy Leaders, will talk about 10 powerful women in business and why they are so effective. www.professionalwomenofwestchester.com.

Anne Hutchinson & Ballet: The Ajkun Ballet Theatre presents a special dance sequence evoking the lives of three prominent women, Anne Hutchinson, Abigail Adams and Eleanor Roosevelt associated with St. Paul’s Church Historic Site.
