Those wishing for a white Christmas got a pleasant surprise this evening as snow blanketed Briarcliff Manor and Pleasantville.
Unfortunately, the National Weather Service reports the Christmas Eve gift may be short-lived, as after 4 a.m. on Christmas Day, the snow will likely be replaced with freezing rain.
Before that, up to an inch of snow is possible.
On Christmas Day, expect "freezing drizzle" before 8 a.m. and possibly some more rain after that. The high for the day is 40 degrees.
Watch out for black ice and slippery road conditions if you are traveling for the holiday—"traveling will be hazardous" NWS warns.
