Pets Alive Westchester must evacuate its animal shelter in Elmsford by the end of this weekend and the staff is appealing to the public for help with the 100 dogs, 80 cats and 5 bunnies currently at the facility.

"Our engineering team is out here," said Melissa Stone at 1 p.m. "It's a problem with the foundation."

She said the organization is working with engineers, contractors and their insurance company to stabilize the building and determine next steps.

Meanwhile, adoption fees are suspended. Anyone able to take a pet should visit the rescue at 100 South Warehouse Lane in Elmsford to be paired with animals that are a good fit for their home—today or tomorrow.

On Sunday, the organization will work with partner rescues to place any remaining animals.

Financial assistance is greatly appreciated, said Executive Director Erin Guilshan. It will be managed by sister site, Pets Alive Middletown. Those interested in making a donation should visit www.petsalive.org
