(ELMSFORD, N.Y.) – Westchester residents will have the opportunity to find out exactly how much their treasures are worth at an antiques and collectibles fundraiser event on Friday, Oct. 12, from 7:30-10:30 p.m. at the Captain Lawrence Brewing Company, located at 444 Saw Mill River Road (Rte. 9A), in Elmsford. The proceeds will benefit Student Advocacy, a Westchester-based non-profit that helps struggling students get on track to school success.
Some of the hidden treasures making their way to the event include a Beatles TV tray from the early 1960’s, a collection of vintage action figures, bakelite jewelry and vintage handbags, and a tea set manufactured in Occupied Japan (1945-1952).
The lead appraiser at Hidden Treasures is Philip Weiss, who has nearly 40 years of experience in the auction and appraisal field. His auction house – Philip Weiss Auctions in Oceanside, NY – has handled many important and unique items, including stamps, coins, toys, trains, dolls, rare books, photos, autographs, rock ‘n’ roll and Hollywood memorabilia, political and presidential memorabilia, animation art, fine art, bronzes, pottery and porcelain. He also appears as an appraiser on the popular television show, The Antiques Roadshow.
In addition to the appraisals, guests can enjoy complimentary beer tasting samples in the Tasting Room at Captain Lawrence, and can purchase full mugs of their favorite brew or choose from a selection of New York State wines as part of the cash bar. A portion of the proceeds from the cash bar will also benefit Student Advocacy. A pub food buffet is included in the $45 per person ticket price, which allows guests to bring one item for appraisal. Additional items will be charged at $10 each.
Student Advocacy, with expertise in the law and education, provides educational advocacy that helps students obtain the services and support they need at school. It also empowers families to advocate on behalf of their children to secure their educational rights. Since its founding 30 years ago in 1982, Student Advocacy has served over 31,000 young people.
