Welcoming Spring with a Topiary Workshop

Abbie Zabar, a well-known author and illustrator of garden books gave a special topiary workshop for the Briarcliff Manor Garden Club, yesterday afternoon. Watching the master topiarist clip, trim & prune plants provided from Sal Gilbertie's Herb Farm was an inspiring treat for all of us. Abbie demonstrated on untrimmed plants, creating designs from nothing to something. She used stakes on all plants and on some, frames anchoring support for the topiaries she created. She clipped & tied with the intention of training and directing the plants into living sculptures. Each member left with a topiary and instructions on how to train and maintain their plant. Happy first day of Spring!!
