BHS Inducts 18 Into Prestigious Tri-M Music Honors Society


The Briarcliff High School Chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society inducted 18 new members who fulfilled the rigorous requisite admission criteria based on their accomplishments in music performance and their music and academic classes. Each candidate was required to receive recommendations from their music ensemble teacher and four of their academic teachers as well.  

BHS Tri-M (Modern Music Makers) Honor Society adviser Delia Montenegro organized the ceremony with the assistance of the 25 members of the society. BHS Tri-M President Rachel He, Vice President Jessica Mason, Secretary Caroline Pennachio and Treasurer Matthew Bombassei presided over the ceremony, which included stellar performances from three current Tri-M members: Sophia Rooks performed on the viola, Edwin Zhou performed on the flute and Baritone, and Jordan Ross sang with accompaniment provided by choral teacher Dr. John Banks.

The Tri-M Music Honor Society is an international program dedicated to the recognition of exceptional music students in grades 6-12 that meet a notable music, academic, leadership, and character criteria asked of every Tri-M member. Tri-M is a program of NAfME: The National Association for Music Education, which is the largest arts education association in the world.

The purpose of this organization is to inspire music participation, create enthusiasm for scholarship, stimulate a desire to render service and promote leadership in music students of secondary schools. Through more than 4,500-chartered chapters, Tri-M has helped thousands of young people in schools throughout the world provide years of service through music in schools.

BHS Tri-M chapter 3229 was established during the 1999-2000 school year. Since its inception BHS student-musicians have provided numerous services to the community such as mentoring younger music students, performing at nursing homes, providing invaluable help at two Solo NYSSMA Festivals that Briarcliff hosted in 2000 and 2011, performing at various fundraisers, including one for the victims of Hurricane Sandy, ushering for school concerts or shows, and helping music teachers with various projects.
