Briarcliff Improving Its School Facilities

In a committed effort to improve facilities for the coming school year and preserve the community’s schools for the long term, a number of renovation projects were completed this summer at all three schools in Briarcliff Manor. Various projects were completed at Todd Elementary School, Briarcliff Middle School and Briarcliff High School, which were funded through a $10.25 million capital project initiative approved by voters in May 2012.

At Todd Elementary School, a total of 11 classrooms in the K-2 wing were renovated, along with a computer lab, hallway and restrooms to meet ADA compliance.

At the Briarcliff Middle School/High School campus, one existing science lab was renovated, while two classrooms have been reconfigured into a chemistry lab. The band room and physics lab were also upgraded, and the school cafeteria will soon be modified to accommodate a student collaboration center with Wi-Fi access. The dance studio was also expanded and is currently being finalized for use in the next month. Computer lab renovations and the expansion of the fitness room were completed, and students will also have the opportunity to utilize a new “Exploring Music” lab, which will be completed soon.

The renovations of the Game Day Field, which includes the installation of a new synthetic turf field and new track, began in early July and will continue through mid-November. Four tennis courts have also been resurfaced and are currently being used by the tennis teams. Renovation of the baseball and field hockey fields is also scheduled for summer 2014. The baseball field is expected to be ready for use in the fall of 2014 while renovation of the field hockey and lower soccer fields will begin next fall with the goal of having them ready for students by spring or summer 2015. The Todd School playing field will also undergo renovation beginning in June 2015 with the field reopening to students the following spring.

The voter-approved capital project scope also included various electrical, heating and ventilation upgrades at different school buildings; sound and public address system improvements; door and stair replacement/reconstruction; and minor roof and drainage improvements.

Ongoing and separate from the voter-approved capital project is the remediation of the softball field at the BMS/BHS complex which was also completed over the summer. The softball field will be available for use this spring.
