Slow Business Forces Pleasantville's Wisteria Gifts to Close

The longtime Washington Avenue gift shop will be closing for good at the end of the month.

Empty shelves, tables with "sold" stickers and waning merchandise in Pleasantville's Wisteria Gifts shows it's just weeks away from closing for good.

"Business was just really bad," Owner Leslie Resnick told Patch about the decision to shutter the 7-year-old store.

Prior to its Pleasantville location, it was based in Armonk for five years, Resnick said.

The Washington Avenue gift shop will officially close at the end of July.

Until then, everything in the shop remains on sale for 30 percent off—items still in stock include home goods and accessories, some Christmas merchandise marked down 50 percent, beauty products, children's gifts and more. The store's furniture other fixtures are also for sale.

Resnick said Wisteria Gifts has been struggling for some time and she feels locals aren't necessarily inclined to patronize local businesses over big box stores.

Up next for Resnick is another business venture, where she will work as an independent consultant to help people with "health and wellness," she said.
