Your Valentine's Day Weekend

Sweet happenings coming up in Briarcliff Manor and Pleasantville.

Keep it sweet and keep it local with some special Valentine's Day events coming up in the villages of Pleasantville and Briarcliff Manor.

Where/When: on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. and Friday, Feb. 10 at 10 a.m.

Why go: Hershey Story Museum Chocolate Lab Instructor Ann McFadden is coming to Briarcliff Manor for two special chocolate and truffle-making sessions at Holbrook Cottage. The workshop will explore the differences between West African, Mexican and Java chocolates, all in a hands-on environment. At the end of the second day, you will have your own truffles packaged in a ballotin for your special valentine. There will also be a wine and chocolate pairing.

Where/When: on Saturday, Feb. 11 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 12 from 12 to 5 p.m.

Why go: Pleasantville's local winery is hosting its annual chocolate and wine pairing for the romantic holiday. It's a perfect opportunity to enjoy locally-produced products with that special someone. You can taste up to four wines for free, five to eight wines for $5 or a full flight, which includes a wine glass, for $10. The winery also plans to release its new Black Muscat dessert wine.

Pricing: Free to $10, depending on number of wines

Where/When: on Saturday, Feb. 11 from 4:15 to 6:15 p.m.

Why go: The bakery's owner, Denise Treco, will be leading a workshop on how to create fun and flirty cupcakes for Valentine's Day. The class will include how-tos for using pastry bags, tips, fondant, sugar flowers, edible glitter and other decorating tools. Everyone will take home six cupcakes. There is a $5 discount if you register with a friend.

Where/When: y on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 2 p.m.

Why go: Enjoy a romantic afternoon of music with mezzo-soprano Phyllis Fay Farmer and pianist Emily Olin. The duo will perform a recital featuring songs by Purcell, Haydn, Rimsky-Korsakov and more.

Valentine Dinner Dance

Where/When:  on Saturday, Feb. 11 from 7:30 p.m. to 12 a.m.

Why go: Enjoy an open bar, cocktail hour and four course dinner for Valentine's Day. A DJ will play music all night long. The prix-fixe menu includes everything. Advanced reservations required by calling 769-5010.

Create a Valentine

Where/When: on Friday, Feb. 10 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Why go: First and second graders will have an opportunity to create a personalized valentine with friends, as well as enjoy a pizza dinner. Each participant will also decorate a cookie to take home.
