Taekwondo increases physical activity, helps you lose or maintain weight, learn how to defend yourself, raise your self-worth, and begin your journey to living a Black Belt Life.

The UMAC Briarcliff Martial Arts philosophy emphasizes personal development and family happiness. Practicing Martial Arts without philosophy is no better than street fighting.

This past weekend UMAC hosted a retreat and Black Belt Graduation. All weekend long the students and leadership team trained and practiced forms, meditation, breathing exercises, and personal development. We invited parents to participate in special classes to enhance their appreciation for the art, beauty, and philosophy of Taekwondo. And eight parents earned their Yellow Belt. Congratulations!

The culmination of the retreat was belt testing and board breaking, especially for our Black Belts who broke concrete bricks. All our students challenged themselves and conquered their breaks.

Conquer Belt Testing

Your nervous, a bit hesitant, really excited, a little scared...all at the same time. Belt testing is a vital part of learning the Martial Arts, it is both a time to show off your skills and to recognize an achievement. One of the underlying lessons that accompanies your latest achievement is to show integrity in your actions, behavior, and attitude. Integrity is one of the five pillars of Taekwondo.

You thank your instructors and family for this opportunity. You cheer for the other students if they are struggling with their break. You congratulate the graduates for a job well-done. You don’t boast or show off to your friends. You come back and work hard and train to conquer the next belt challenge.

Congratulations! You are developing both a physical and mental edge. You are on your way to becoming the best Martial Artist that you can be...confident, positive, goal oriented, focused, respectful to all people and things, and virtuous.

Come in, learn to punch and kick, and conquer new challenges.

Thank you for this opportunity to serve you.
