The Family That Trains Together Makes Memories Together

As parents we provide opportunities for our children to grow and we look for activities that will “keep them busy”, “get them active, out of the house, and away from the computer”, “instill an interest”, and “have fun”, to list just some of the reasons parents give.

We enroll our children in baseball, gymnastics, dance, and other activities. And this is terrific as getting out to play is so much better than sitting around a TV, computer, or video game. Most children need more activity in their lives, our schools just don’t provide enough physical activity time.

Team sports can be great for teaching skills, teamwork, and handling the highs of winning and the lows of losing...as long as they have a knowledgeable and caring coach. And many parents share activities that they enjoyed growing up hoping their children will enjoy them too.

I don’t think I forced my children into Taekwondo they did it on their own. While growing up they were often with me when I was teaching a class or traveling to a competition, so in one way or another they were immersed in my lifestyle. It may not be a surprise that they are all Black Belts, as is my wife. But what I’ve really enjoyed is watching each of them grow, mature, and develop into inspiring young adults, good academic students, and respectful people.

One of the great things about the Martial Arts is that it is an activity that can be enjoyed for a lifetime. And you don’t have to be a great athlete to be a great Martial Artist. Once the fundamentals are learned you can always come back or learn a new style.

Many of our young students start off in our Kids Martial Arts program. And as their parents watch them train and test for their belts they realize what a great activity Taekwondo is. Yes, there is a Family Martial Arts program and UMAC is fortunate to have so many families training together and developing memorable moments together.

Yes, I firmly believe that the family that trains together develops a special family bond, building memories, sharing goals, and having fun.

If you are considering enrolling your child in Taekwondo, our Summer Camp program is a great way to test the program. Your child will meet new friends (and maybe some existing ones), learn Taekwondo, have fun, and have an active, safe summer.

Check UMAC out for your next family adventure (And watch our video to hear from some of our families in their own words!).

Thank you for this opportunity to serve you.
