You've Got The Power...!

There are many benefits from practicing the Martial Arts. You can develop great physical power AND even greater mental power. And from this mental power you can develop personal power, which is the ability to achieve any goal that you set.

Personal power is so important and valuable to me that it is the focus of the first chapter in my book, “It’s Not About the Belt”. Having Personal power means taking charge of your life and making the best choices to help you become a better and successful person.

Goal setting is important for your personal and professional life. Some people I know can think about a goal and work out all the steps needed to attain it. Other people write down their goals and post them to remind themselves every day on the path they are creating. Taekwondo is a terrific goal setting activity that can translate into a lifestyle.

The Taekwondo Belt System teaches goal setting where the student progresses from one belt to the next on their way to attaining a Black Belt. Students learn basic skills and exercises which get more complex at each successive belt or level. And once a Black Belt is earned, in addition to earning advanced Black Belt rank, UMAC has created other student goals, such as becoming an instructor, demonstration team member, and master.

Learning Taekwondo teaches the importance of practice, hard work, focus, overcoming challenges, and perseverance...all important life skills needed to succeed. And with each belt earned, the student is learning goal-setting. They are learning how to pursue what is valuable to them...they are developing the skills needed to attain personal power.

Choice and Effect

Every day we all face choices. However, how often do we consider the consequences of our choices?

Judging by the news every day, there are a lot of people making very bad choices with very bad consequences. Whether its selling or taking drugs, smoking, texting while driving, over-eating or eating unhealthy foods, being greedy, or being a bully...the consequences can be disastrous and have life-long effects.

UMAC Taekwondo focuses on the body, mind, and spirit. It is more than punching and kicking. It is about learning to live a Black Belt life and making positive choices that will benefit your body, mind and spirit, and have positive outcomes for you, your family, friends, and community.

My Worthy Ideal is “to impact and create a better society for all people in the community through martial arts training and Taekwondo; teaching and living a Black Belt Life.”

Is personal power the same as willpower?

Willpower is the ability to do something, control an impulse, and is about self-control, like not eating that donut. Willpower is a component of personal power. Personal power is about making wise choices with positive consequences, giving you the ability to direct or change the direction of your life.

You have the power to make a positive difference in your life and those around you. Teach this to your children and practice this yourself.

You have the power!

Thank you for this opportunity to serve you.
