Girl Scouts Collect Items for Victims of Hurricane Sandy [PHOTOS]

Briarcliff-Pocantico Hills Girls Scouts team with UJA to help with relief efforts.

Briarcliff-Pocantico Hills Girls Scouts from six troops spent several hours in front of two local businesses collecting donations of food and other items for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Setting up tables in front of the Chilmark A&P and Value Drugs, scouts passed out a list of items needed so shoppers could purchase them while inside the stores.

Shoppers then came out of the stores with the items and placed them in bins, while those wishing to make a cash donation could do so--something the Girl Scouts rarely accept unless of special circumstances such as this relief effort.

Value drugs also offered a 10 percent discount on all items purchased if people also bought items for the relief effort. The donated goods and funds will be given to the UJA Federation of New York/Westchester in White Plains for distribution to those in need.
