With below freezing temperatures in the region again (today's high is 29 degrees in Pleasantville and Briarcliff Manor, according to the National Weather Service), locals may be pleased to hear Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow today.
February 2, Groundhog Day, brings national attention to Punxsutawney, PA, where Phil the groundhog determines whether winter will drag out or spring is on its way.
ABC News reports Phil did not see his shadow this morning, meaning an early spring is in store in 2013.
Punxsutawney Phil's Wikipedia entry says last year he predicted a long winter, and in 2011, an early spring.
But the prediction isn't stopping the National Weather Service from predicting a possiblility of more snow today and on Super Bowl Sunday in Briarcliff Manor and Pleasantville.
There is a 50 percent chance of snow tonight and 30 percent chance tomorrow, NWS reports. Tomorrow's high is 30 degrees.
Briarcliff Manor reports the ice skating rink is open today.
Next week also looks chilly in the villages—there's a 40 percent chance of snow Tuesday night and Wednesday and highs in the low 30s leading up to that.
