Manhattan String Quartet Kicks Off 2014-2015 Pleasantville Chamber Music Society Season Nov. 16

The opening concert in the Pleasantville Chamber Music Society’s 2014-15 series features the Manhattan String Quartet, at 3:00 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church, 400 Bedford Rd., Pleasantville, NY. The concert, which is free to the public, leads off the Society’s 38th season.

· Joseph Haydn: String Quartet Op. 74 #3 (1793)

· Alban Berg: Lyric Suite (1926)

· Edward Elgar: String Quartet Op. 83 (1918)

Hailed by the Boston Globe as “a national treasure,” the MSQ is celebrating its 44th season. Well known for performances of 20th Century classics, the Quartet has established an international reputation with concert appearances around the world. Members of the MSQ are:

Curtis Macomber, violin

Calvin Wiersma, violin

John Dexter, viola

Christopher Finckel, cello

Free parking is available at the church, in nearby municipal lots, and on the street.

The 2014-15 season is dedicated to the memory of Joe Goodman, the founding spirit behind the Pleasantville Chamber Music Society, who died last August. The Society, begun in 1976, is supported by the business and professional community and individual contributions.
