This campaign initially started because of the substantial financial loss that occurs in areas where wild fires consume many homes. The Red Cross is there right after a fire to give the victims the means to get shelter, food and clothing.

Currently, the Briarcliff High School members of the American Red Cross Club, led by 11th graders Grace Orr and Rob Contento, are collecting school supplies and backpacks to provide assistance to the children whose belongings have been destroyed.

These youth volunteers, with the assistance of their faculty advisor, Ms. K. McCarthy, will make a positive impact in the lives of those affected by fire and other disasters. As you may know, the American Red Cross is known for its service to victims of disaster, both nationally and globally. The ARC also supports military families, offers health and safety training and education, and provides blood collection services.

Please consider donating school supplies and/or backpacks. Collection boxes have been set up in the lobby of BHS and at Value Drugs in Briarcliff. The drive will run from May 1st until May 16th. Value Drugs in Briarcliff continues to support community events and helps non-profit organizations satisfy the needs of others. Thank you to Ken, Anthony and Gary!
