Mazel Tov! Briarcliff Adults Celebrate B'nai Mitzvah

Congregation Sons of Israel (CSI) Briarcliff recently feted 10 local adults.

After two years of hard work, 10 adults were rewarded with a giant celebration—a B'nai Mitzvah—at (CSI) Briarcliff.

Locals Debra Blaustein, Dan Gold, Donna Hannan, Jill Hertz, Mindy Lanoff, Mary Sternberg and Laura Teitelbaum were joined by Croton's Aaron Gershowitz, Chappaqua's Susan Thrope and New York's Rachelle Travin on Sunday, May 27 for the special service.

"For the past two years a group of 10 adults, women and men, have been studying and preparing for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah, albeit a few years after they turned 13!" Said Rabbi Steven C. Kane in the synagogue's newsletter. "Each has a different and unique story to tell and each has their own reason why they have spent most Sunday mornings these past two years studying Hebrew and Jewish life and traditions. Some did not grow up as Jews, while others were not afforded the opportunity to celebrate their Bar/Bat Mitzvah as young teenagers."

Rabbi Kane continued, "All of them have worked very hard to show their family, friends and the Jewish community that they have achieved a new level of Jewish literacy..."
