Pleasantville High School Student Selected as National Delegate for 2014 Girl Scouts of the USA National Council Session/53rd Convention

Pleasantville, NY  -  Madison Spears, a freshman at Pleasantville High School,  has been selected as one of four girl delegates representing  Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson, Inc. (GSHH) at the upcoming 2014 Girl Scouts of the USA National Council Session in Salt Lake City, UT, October 16 – October 19, 2014.   

The National Council Session is the Girl Scouts’ major governance meeting.  The members of the National Council convene every three years to help shape the future of the Movement by voting on business proposals, reflecting on topics such as girl leadership and advocacy, and celebrating the Girl Scout Movement!  The National Council membership include delegates elected from each Girl Scout council across the country and from USA Girl Scouts Oversees.  Girl delegates are on the delegate floor during all business meetings. 

Madison is a Senior level girl scout in Troop 2287 in Pleasantville and has earned the Girl Scout Bronze Award and the Silver Award – the 2nd highest earned  award in Girl Scouting.    “It is a great honor to be selected to represent Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson for the next three years.”    GSHH serves approximately 32,000 registered girls and over 14,000 registered adults in seven counties of the lower Hudson Valley of New York (Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Ulster, Sullivan, and Westchester).

As a girl delegate, Madison will also attend the Girl Scout Leadership Institute (GSLI) general sessions during the National Council Session . The GSLI  is a triennial conference that provides girls 14 - 18  with three days of leadership skill-building activities tied to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE).  Girls will be able to learn new skills and become engaged with a multitude of activities in the Hall of Experiences, participate in the governance of Girl Scouting as delegates to the National Council Session, take action on important issues as a part of the Girl Scout Leadership Institute, and play key roles in important ceremonies.
