Pleasantville's Janice Gambino a 'Woman of Distinction'

The Tina Shaina Gambino Memorial Foundation honors the memory of Janice Gambino's daughter with a series of events and fundraisers for scholarships each year.

Following the death of Tina Shaina Gambino during her senior year at Pleasantville High School in 2004, her mother Janice rallied, with the support of the community, to found the Tina Shaina Gambino Memorial Foundation.

This year, Pleasantville's Janice Gambino is one of 22 nominees From Sen. Greg Ball (R, C, I — Patterson)'s district, which includes the Mount Pleasant portion of Briarcliff Manor, as well as Pleasantville for the Women of Distinction honor.

This year marks Ball's second annual Women of Distinction Hall of Fame and will include a recognition ceremony for the Westchester and Putnam women on September 8.

The Tina Shaina Gambino Foundation offers scholarships to PHS seniors every year and lends support to programs at Maria Fareri Children's Hospital at Westchestr Medical Center.

Recently, the Foundation has supported an annual 5K RUn/Walk held in Gambino's name.

"Every year the Tina Shaina Gambino Memorial Foundation sponsors the Reflections Scholarship, Tina’s 5K Run/Walk, The Drive Smart Program, the Thanksgiving Day Program and the Tina Sportsmanship Award," according to Sen. Ball's website. "Janice, the entire Gambino family, and the many friends and supporters who have assisted in the development of the Foundation, have ensured that Tina's special gifts continue to enrich the community each and every year."
