Why go: Local seniors don't need to be fluent in Yiddish to enjoy an afternoon of Yiddish poetry, current events, short stories, humor and music at the Pleasantville branch of the Rosenthal JCC Thursday afternoon.

Deaf Jam
Where/When: on Sunday, April 15 at 5 p.m.
Why go: As part of JBFC's Westchester Jewish Film Festival 2012, Deaf Jam features Aneta Brodski, a deaf poet who expresses herself using American Sign Language. Her expressions become art when she joins up with Tahani Salah, a Palestinian poet. Both artists will be live for a Q&A and will share their poetry using an ASL interpretor. Buy tickets here.

Sheep-to-Shawl Festival
Where/When: in Sleepy Hollow on Saturday, April 14 and Sunday, April 15 (as well as next weekend), beginning at 10 a.m.
Why go: The historic Philipsburg Manor holds its annual Sheep to Shawl Festival, a celebration of the resident sheep losing their winter coats. They'll be shorn in the 18th century manner in the barnyard, while related activities, including wool dyeing, spinning, and weaving, and special hands-on activities for children, take place simultaneously, led by people in costume. Picnic food is available. Visitors can also watch Gene Sheninger's agile Scottish border collies who'll deftly herd sheep and ducks as well.
