Local Community Spreads Holiday Joy to World’s Needy Children
PLEASANTVILLE, NY, Dec. 3, 2012 –Pleasantville’s Emanuel Lutheran Church community donated a record 137 Christmas presents to a global gift exchange bringing holiday joy to the world’s neediest children.
The 400-plus members of Emanuel Lutheran made its largest donation ever to Operation Christmas Child, a global Christmas gift exchange operated by Samaritan’s Purse. Operation Christmas Child collects shoeboxes filled with toys, school supplies, personal items, and other gifts to be distributed to children the world over.
“We are delighted to contribute 137 boxes to Operation Christmas Child,” said Helayne McDonnell, who spearheaded the project at Emanuel Lutheran. “This is a testament to the teamwork and dedication of our Sunday School children, Youth Group, teachers and parents to help bring Christmas joy to children in need.”
