[VIDEO] Maryknoll Car Show Kicks Off Summer

The first Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers' Antique and Classic Car Show was such a success that it was given the green light to return next year and possibly for years to come.

No better way to kick off summer than with a warm sunny day, an exhibit of classic and antique cars, live music, kids’ activities and grilled food.

The first annual Antique and Classic Car Show was held on Sunday, June 10, and it attracted more than 200 vintage vehicles that were exhibited on the large field at the west end of the 100-acre Maryknoll property in Ossining. More than l,200 visitors viewed the cars, took part in kids’ activities, learned more about Maryknoll’s work with the poor around the world and toured the largest fieldstone building – Maryknoll’s Seminary Building -- in the country.

The 101-year-old Ossining-based Maryknoll Society is the foreign mission service of the U.S. Catholic Church. Maryknoll serves the poor and others in need in 28 countries that includes the U.S.

The event was organized by Maryknoll employees as a fundraiser to support the work of Maryknoll missioners, promote the work of the society and open the Maryknoll Mission Center and grounds to the New York metropolitan area community. The show was supported by the Ossining Police Benevolent Association and the Ossining Fire Department, and kids were able to don equipment and tour a police SWAT vehicle and a fire truck.

More than 20 awards were presented to exhibitors, with judging handled by the Road Knights Auto Club. Ron Nuzzaro of Yonkers, the owner of a 1955 Chevy Belair, won “Best of Show.” The range of show vehicles included a 1929 Model “A” Ford and a 1968 Chevy Camaro R.S.

The show’s success guaranteed that it will become Westchester County’s newest annual tradition. Visit Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers’ Antique and Classic Car Show for photos from the show and return often to check for the announcement about the date for the 2013 show.
