Dante L. Gismondi, 77

The doctor had ties to a number of Westchester County practices.

Dante L. Gismondi, M.D. of Pompton Plains, NJ, formerly of Harrison, NY died on September 12, 2013. He was born in Uniontown, PA. on September 26, 1935, a son of Dante and Rose (Saggese) Gismondi. He attended Cardinal Hayes HS, Bronx, NY. He received a B.A. from Columbia College, Columbia University in New York City on June 4, 1957 and an M.D. degree from Albany Medical College of Union University in Albany, N.Y. on May 26, 1961. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Diseases at the Bronx V.A. Hospital, Bronx, N.Y. on December 31, 1967. His residency was interrupted by 2 years of active military service as Captain in the USAF at Scott AFB, Illinois from 1963 to 1965.

Following residency, he entered into a partnership with Joseph T. Paglia, M.D., a fellow resident, a dear friend and colleague with whom he practiced in Mamaroneck, N.Y. until his retirement in January 2001. They shared pride in the success and growth of their practice to later include Bruce Sherling, M.D., Bruno DiCosmo, M.D., Scott Klares, M.D., James Doyle, M.D. and Pamela Eliach, M.D., all wonderful and superb doctors.

He was Attending Physician at United Hospital Medical Center, Port Chester, N.Y. from 1969 to 2001. and he cherished the Medical and Nursing Staffs as well as all the Hospital Employees whom he considered to be his second family. He loved United Hospital and was a member of or chaired numerous committees throughout the years. He was a member of the Board of Trustees for 15 years and held the position of Medical Director of United Hospital Medical Center for 7 years. In addition to his practice and hospital obligations, he held the academic title of Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at New York Medical College and later Weill Medical College of Cornell University. He was a Consultant in Internal Medicine for many years at General Foods Corporation in White Plains, N.Y. and Pepsico Corporation in Purchase, N.Y. He was especially proud of his election as a Fellow of The American College of Physicians in January 2000 in Philadelphia, PA.

Dr. Gismondi was predeceased by his parents Dante and Rose Gismondi, brothers Michael R. Gismondi and Gerald A. Gismondi, nephew Thomas E. Gismondi and friend Donald G. Cleary. He is survived by his sister-in-law Margaret Gismondi, nieces Judy, Rose, Patricia and Joanne (Smith), nephews Michael and William (Mary), great nieces Bridget, Sophia and Samantha and great nephews Patrick, Matthew and Thomas. He is also survived by his longtime friend George L. Siegel.

Visitation Sunday 3-8 PM at Beecher Flooks Funeral Home, Pleasantville, N.Y. Mass of Christian Burial Monday 11 AM,  Holy Innocents Church, Pleasantville, NY. Entombment at Mount St. Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown, PA Tuesday at 11 AM.
