Edwin Van Valey: Former Briarcliff Resident

Dr. Edwin C. "Ned" Van Valey, 90, a longtime Red Hook resident and prior resident of Briarcliff Manor, NY, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2014 at the Health Alliance- Broadway Campus in Kingston, NY. 

Born on May 25th, 1923, in Bronxville, NY, he was the son of the late Edwin Glazier Van Valey and Minnie Maria (LaRose) Van Valey.

Ned married Ruth Schiesser on May 22, 1960 in Woodhaven, NY and she survives at home in Red Hook. 

He served in the United States Army at West Point from 1956-1958.

For many years, Ned, along with his wife Ruth, cared for patients and ran their dental office in Rockefeller Center in NYC. Ned earned his degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1950.

Always an active advocate for the dental community, Ned served as the Past President of American Association of Endodontists, Diplomate with the College of Endodontists, member of the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists, the NY Academy of Dentistry, NYC Dental Society, and Past Grand Master of the Delta Sigma Delta.

Following his retirement he remained active in his community. He was an active member of the Red Hook Rotary for many years. 

Sailing was his passion, he was a member of the NY Yacht Club, the Shattemuc Yacht Club and the Red Hook Boat Club. 

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by a son; Edwin Torr Van Valey of Sudbury, MA, and a daughter; Barberie H. Van Valey of Concord, NH, a granddaughter; Grace Tucker Van Valey of Sudbury, MA, two nephews; Michael Van Valey of Avon Lake, OH, and Robert Van Valey of Renton, WA, along with numerous colleagues and friends.

He was predeceased by a brother; William Donald Van Valey

Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 PM.

Funeral services will be held at 01:00 PM on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Burnett & White Funeral Homes, Red Hook. 

Memorial donations may be made in Ned's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
