Ronald Alenstein: Former Briarcliff ZBA Chairman

Ronald H. Alenstein, 73, passed away peacefully in his home in Briarcliff Manor on March 8, 2014.

He was born in Washington, DC, September 22, 1940, to Charles and Edythe (Straus) Alenstein. Ronald was a graduate of Washington and Lee University and Harvard Law School.

He was a litigating partner at Shea & Gould for 26 years. Later, he was a partner at D'Amato & Lynch, and ended his career as a partner at Ingram, Yuzek, Gainen, Carroll, and Bertolotti, all in New York City.

He served on the Briarcliff Manor Zoning Board of Appeals from 1998-2014, the Chairperson since 2006.

He was a member of the New York Harvard Club for 45 years.

Ronald is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Mary Raymond Alenstein, their children Abby (James) Langehennig of Dix Hills, NY, and Alec P. (Helene) Alenstein of Briarcliff Manor, NY. He cherished his grandchildren Raymond and Holly Langehennig and Lyle and Will Alenstein who gave him great joy. Also surviving is his sister Marla (Robert) Michel of Baltimore, MD.

Ron loved his family above all else and he loved the practice of law. After that, fine food, good wine, sports cars, the theater and sailing made him happy. He was a devoted husband and a wonderful father.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Briarcliff Congregational Church or The Ossining Food Pantry.

Visitation will be at the Waterbury & Kelly Funeral Home, Thursday, March 13, 2014, 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, March 14, 2014, at Briarcliff Congregational Church, 30 South State Rd, Briarcliff Manor, NY 10510. 914-941-4368.
