Visiting Hours are June 4 for Frederick Bange

Frederick Bange of Briarcliff passed away on Monday June 2, 2014. Frederick was born on October 28, 1922 in Langerfeld, Germany, the son of August and Elizabeth Bange. He was 91 years old.

Frederick graduated from Ossining High School, Stewart Tech College of Aeronautics, and Ridde-McKay Aero College.

He served in World War II as a Captain in both the British Royal Air Force and the U.S. Army Air Forces. Frederick received the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross. 

Frederick owned and operated Hillikers Department Store in Ossining and Towncliff Casuals in Briarcliff. He was also a member of a variety of community organizations.

He married Jean Hilliker in 1945 and had two sons Gregory (Elaine) and Jeffrey (Gail). 

His sons, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and his longtime companion Virginia Pomoell survive him. His wife and his sister, Ann Jowitt, predeceased Frederick.

 Visiting Hours will be held on Wednesday June 4, from 5-8 PM at Dorsey Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 5, at 11 AM, also at Dorsey. Interment to follow at Dale Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers, donations requested to Bethel Nursing Home.

Am sorry to hear of Fred's death. Several years ago he participated in a program at Trinity Episcopal honoring the "Greatest Generation." Fred recounted his WW2 service in an understated matter of fact way and it was a testimony of what it truly means to be a hero.
