You don’t have to leave town to get that affordable one-of-a kind gift. Just stop by the Ossining Arts Council’s Holiday Bazaar!

If you’re tired of the long lines, in-personable salespeople and packed malls, the Holiday Bazaar in historic downtown Ossining is the place to be this season.

OSSINING NY, December 3, 2012:  The bazaar officially opened its door this past Saturday and will re-open for shopping this Saturday December 8th & December 15th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Holiday Bazaar is sponsored and coordinated by Ossining Arts Council. The 2nd floor of the Steamer Firehouse located at 117 Main Street, Ossining, NY 10562. The old firehouse, now the new home of the Arts Council has been transformed into a shopper’s paradise with boutique styled vendor spaces and a beautiful holiday atmosphere.

“It’s a great opportunity to purchase beautiful gifts that are made by local artists and craftspeople,” said Mark Sarazen, President of Ossining Arts Council.

Finding that special one of a kind gift on your list is what the bazaar is all about. Unique gifts such as handmade items, art, jewelry, photography, baked goods, fiber crafts, holiday cards and decorations will be on display and for sale. All items are affordability priced according to organizers. Shoppers can park right in the
municipal parking lots or on the street metered spaces.

“The OAC has a space once more which opens the door to all manner of artistic endeavors. For example, we will be hosting the Blue Moon Ensemble on Saturday, December 8th - experimental jazz musicians. We've hosted pot lucks with themed discussions one about the Works Project Administration. Next year we will be collaborating with the Westchester Collaborative Theater,” said Sarazen

This will be the Ossining Arts Council’s first Holiday Bazaar in several years. Shoppers have the opportunity to support local artist and commerce all at the same time. Supporting local artist and businesses will strengthen the local economy.

“Financing for the arts has become increasingly difficult. Working with other organizations not only helps defray expenses, but it's also a fantastic way to expand our interdisciplinary activity and further our reach into the community,” said Sarazen.

Shoppers will also be able to have the chance to meet-the-artists and enjoy some refreshments on the evening of Tuesday, December 4th after the annual Ossining tree lighting ceremony, scheduled to take place in Market Square at 5:45PM that night. The event is free.

“Now that we have a space of our own at the Steamer Firehouse, we are thrilled to be able to hold events like this for the community. We intend for this bazaar to be the start of an annual OAC tradition,” says Sarazen.

The Ossining Arts Council coordinates a variety of programs and events for the community such as the annual Members Art Exhibit and many more all programs and events are funded in full with membership fees.

Support local artists and galleries the council by joining today or donating. The Basic Annual Membership for the Ossining Arts Council cost less than 50 cents a week and less than 16 cents a week for students, making it affordable for all.

I’m so delighted that the Ossining Arts Council has been able to put this beautiful historical downtown building in great use. We have a thriving arts community in Ossining and I’m sure this will be the first of much economic development we will see in downtown Ossining,” said Catherine Borgia, Westchester County Legislator,
District 9.

The Ossining Arts Council is a not-for-profit all-volunteer
organization. Just recently the Ossining Arts Council made the 2nd
floor of the Steamer Fire House their new home, now hosting meetings, dinners,
events and galleries for the community. The Ossining Arts Council is always
seeking new members, local artist and volunteers to get involved in any way.
