BRS Breaks Stuff a Bus Record

Bedford Road School hosted a Stuff a Bus pep rally for the Pajama Program’s Westchester chapter on Friday, November 15, 2013. The entire school community, dressed in pajamas, gathered for an assembly that featured an appearance by Pajama Program founder Genevieve Piturro and local notables. Pleasantville Mayor Peter Scherer declared November 15 to be Bedford Road School Day, in recognition of the volunteer spirit of the school’s students, staff, and parents. Modell’s Sporting Goods, a Pajama Program sponsor, presented the school with a $500 gift card that Principal Peggy Galotti will use to purchase recess equipment. The assembly also included the presentation of certificates to the BRS Student Council, the Stuff a Bus organizers, and the school’s Pajama Partners (Aunt B’s, Try ‘n’ Buy, Village Bookstore, Yes Nails, and Yogalicious) and the screening of a Pajamas video, made by the school’s staff, that delighted all viewers. Student Council members and guests then carried out bags that held 1200 new pajamas and books – a Westchester record – to the bus waiting outside. Since Friday, BRS has received nearly 150 more donations to add towards the chapter’s goal of 5000 new pajamas and 5000 new books, to be distributed to Westchester’s children in need before Thanksgiving.

The Pajama Program, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, was founded by Genevieve Piturro in 2001 to provide new pajamas and new books to children in need nationwide, many of whom are waiting and hoping to be adopted. Many of these children have been abandoned or abused. The program currently has 62 chapters in 32 states and provides thousands of pajamas and books to children in desperate need of comfort and care.
