Elks Give Dictionaries to BRS Third Graders

Members of the Mid-Westchester Elks Lodge #535 visited Bedford Road School on December 6 to distribute dictionaries to all third graders as part of its Elks Care/Elks Share program. The goal of the program is “to assist all students in becoming good writers, active readers, creative thinkers, and resourceful learners.” Since educators consider third grade the dividing line between learning to read and reading to learn, the Elks annually give out personal dictionaries to all BRS third graders. At an assembly prior to the distribution of dictionaries, BRS Student Council members welcomed the Elks and screened a video they made that described a dictionary’s many uses.
