BYOB - Bring Your Own Bag!

Is Your Life Too Plastic?

As part of our effort to spread the word about increasing the number of reusable bags and decreasing the number of plastic bags, we recently ran two events.

On Sept 21, we had a table at the Pleasantville Farmers Market, where we got to talk with many interested shoppers and partner with the Chamber of Commerce as they distributed reusable shopping bags.

Also, we had a nice turnout for our screening of Bag It on Oct. 8. This enjoyable documentary film follows one man as he navigates our plastic world, ultimately asking if plastic bags are really necessary. (The answer, as you may have expected, is: NO! There are lots of reasons to do without so many of them, and it’s easy to make the shift.) The evening was introduced by Sharon Rowe, founder of Eco-Bags, a terrific local business that’s really making a difference; check them out at ecobags.com. After the screening, Sara Goddard, chair of the Rye Sustainability Committee, spoke about Rye’s plastic bag ban. And the Chamber of Commerce distributed more free reusable bags. Thanks to Sharon, Sara, and the Chamber!

If you missed our screening, go see Bag It at the Ossining Public Library (53 Croton Ave) on Oct. 23 at 6:30. Admission is FREE!
