14-Year-Old Briarcliff Driver Arrested After High Speed Accident

The following information was provided by the Briarcliff Manor Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A high speed accident involving an underage driver in the area of Hirst Road and Long Hill Road was reported Saturday night, said Lieutenant Donald Gorey of the .

The 14-year-old Briarcliff Manor male teenager who was driving the vehicle involved in the accident was subsequently arrested for driving without a license.

"It happened around 9 p.m.," Gorey said. "The driver was unable to negotiate the turn and went off the roadway."

The teenager, who also had a 14-year-old male passenger in the vehicle, allegedly "struck a tree and rolled back into a Con Ed power line at a high rate of speed," according to Gorey.

Police said the two teenagers were taken from the scene by their parents. They reportedly had unspecified injuries, but did not receive medical treatment at the scene.

The driver was also summonsed for driving over the speed limit.

Gorey said police did not believe any substances were involved with the accident.

The vehicle involved was towed from the scene.
