Briarcliff Manor Police Blotter: False IRS Threat; Stolen Laptop

The following is from the police department. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

Here's a look at some of the incidents investigated by the Briarcliff Manor Police Department from July 15 — 21, 2013.

Sunday, July 21

9:30 p.m. — Police stopped a vehicle on Orchard Road after it reportedly failed to lower its high beams as a police car approached. Police reported the driver, a 20-year-old Croton resident, was driving with a suspended license. He was processed at headquarters and released on $100 bail with a court date.

Thursday, July 18

1:50 p.m. — An Orchard Road resident called police and stated his son had been receiving phone calls from a person claiming to ben an IRS employee. The person told the son that his father would be arrested for alleged IRS violations. The resident provided a call-back number to police, who found it to be invalid. Police advised the residents to ignore any future calls and to call 911 if someone shows up at the home as discussed to perform an "arrest."

Wednesday, July 17

5:25 p.m. — A woman called police and stated that a car stopped short in front of her on Route 9A, causing her to rear-end it. The woman said the car in front drove off before she could speak with the driver. She reported front-end damage to her vehicle. No injuries were reported.

2:00 p.m. — A Scarborough Road business reported a missing laptop, worth approximately $1,000. The male complainant said the laptop had been missing since around June 12.

Monday, July 15

7:09 a.m. — Police responded to the scene of a two-car accident in the northbound lanes of Route 9A, near the North State Road intersection. One person complained of injuries at the scene, but did not seek hospitalization.
