UPDATE: Briarcliff Power Restored

11:30PM: Con Ed's power outage map shows all service has been restored in Briarcliff.

Con Ed's power outage map now lists 9 p.m. as the probable time for service restoration.

Check the comments below for texts of the Briarcliff Village Manager's messages to residents.

1:06PM: Con Ed's power outage map adds pole damage to the issues that have left much of the Pleasantville Road business district wholly or partially without power.

The utility company also extended the length of time needed to restore all power to 4 p.m., although Con Ed spokeswoman D. Joy Faber said it could happen sooner or a bit later.

Faber said the incident started at about 1:47 a.m. with an underground short in one of the wires. Underground short-circuits tend to be smoke events, she said.

Con Ed reports that the area outage that has left downtown Briarcliff Manor without power should be restored by 3 p.m.

I was told by Con-Ed that it was an underground transformer fire. The shops are luck the fire was under the street.

Police say the fire department was not called out. I will post what Con Ed says as soon as I hear.

Village Manager, Phil Zegarelli, sent this in an email blast to Village residents at about 10:00 am: ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Village Alert: April 10, 2014 Major Power Outage on Pleasantville Road / Business District. Please be advised that what started as a smoke detector alarm early this morning was a precursor to a major electrical short. The end result was a major transformer fire in our downtown business district block along Pleasantville Road. Early and initial BMFD responses helped to contain damage but primary power has been largely lost in the area. Many of the stores have no or extremely reduced power to their premises. Traffic signals were also knocked out at Pleasantville and North State Roads as well as at the South State Road “bump-out”. We anticipate at least a 3 hour gap before Con Ed will be able to analyze the nature and extent of the damage. Restoration of power is a whole other subject. Every effort will be made to push for full restoration. In the meantime, you are asked to use caution when driving in the area and to obey traffic signs and monitors who are assisting in the restoration effort. Philip E. This UPDATE was just sent as a Village-wide email blast from Village Manager, Phil Zegarelli: +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Village Alert: April 10, 2014 U P D A T E Pleasantville Road / Business District Power Outage. Late afternoon update: Con Ed is attempting to replace their damaged underground power line. Damage was done to one of their 3 primary phase lines. The initial intent is to snake a new line underground and splice it back in to complete and restore the circuit. Additional restoration efforts may need to be done. Con Ed’s back-up plan may require the excavation of the road: a more intense work event. Conditions and plans may change. But while Pleasantville Road remains open, we ask that you drive slowly and carefully … and to avoid parking on the eastside of Pleasantville Road from about Moonbean Coffee shop to the North State Road intersection. It is obvious that room to work in this area be provided to Con Ed so that they can complete their work as best and promptly as possible. Thank you for your understanding and consideration. Philip E. Zegarelli, VM pzegarelli@briarcliffmanor.org
