Don Juan Waiter Accused of Stealing $180K from Customers

Pleasantville Police allege the Bronx man used a skimming device to steal customers' credit card information.

Pleasantville Police have arrested a 42-year-old Bronx man in connection with more than $180,000 in missing funds taken from Don Juan customers.

Gerardo J. Vera allegedly had "been stealing credit card information, via a skimming device, while he as employed as a waiter" at Pleasantville's Don Juan Mexican Restaurant, according to a press release.

Police said the arrest was the result of a "lengthy joint investigation with the United States Secret Service."

Vera is charged with Criminal Possession of a Forgery Device, a Class D Felony.

He is being held in Westchester County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail and is due to appear in Village Court on May 14.

Jail records indicate there is also an immigration investigation underway for Vera.

Police said the case remains open and anyone who believes they were a victim is asked to contact police at 769-1500.

Note: Arrests do not indicate convictions.

With all due respect, where in the article is his citizenship mentioned? His name is just a name. He may well have been born in this country.

This is pretty much the reference, Gail. Immigration investigations aren't performed on citizens born here: "Jail records indicate there is also an immigration investigation underway for Vera."

Thank you for the clarification, David.

I just ate there on Cinco de Mayo. How will we know which guy it was?
Eileen McFadden May 13, 2013 at 11:50 PM
He was an older guy who wasn't too friendly and kept to himself. We got hit for $4K. If you start seeing charges to Apple Computer Stores, you know where that originated from.

He was the one holding the skimming device.
