A large tree branch has fallen on Pleasantville Road in front of Moonbean Cafe in Briarcliff Manor, blocking one lane of traffic and one street-parked car.

Briarcliff Manor Fire Chief Robert O'Hanlon said volunteers from the FD noticed the branch had fallen as they returned from another call.

Traffic was stopped temporarily in both directions while DPW employees used chainsaws to break down the branch. Traffic is now is being diverted around the branch. The DPW is also at the scene, assisting with the removal.

O'Hanlon said no one was injured when the tree fell, though an Acura TSX that was directly beneath it was scratched.

Village Manager Philip Zegarelli said at the scene trees affected by past major storms like Irene and Sandy around the village have been suffering similarly.

"There's no rain, no wind," he noted, but said the trees branches, weakened after storms and weighed down by acorns, likely caused it to finally snap this afternoon.

Update: As of 12:25 p.m., cleanup is complete and traffic flow has been restored.
