New York State Police targeted "distracted drivers" in a six-hour enforcement detail yesterday on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Westchester, according to a press release.
Police subsequently arrested 20 drivers who allegedly violated the "Move Over Law," which—since January 1 of this year—requires drivers "use due care when approaching an emergency vehicle that displays red and/or white emergency lighting," as well as move from the lane on roads with multiple lanes, if they can do so safely.
Additionally, NYSP arrested two people for using their cell phones, four for speeding, three for violating seat belt laws and performed eight additional vehicle and traffic arrests.
Thirty-seven total tickets were issued during the enforcement.
